Fossil Free Investments at RBC
As the largest financer of fossil fuels in Canada, RBC has a lot of work to do in keeping global temperatures below 1.5 degrees. For a variety of reasons, switching banks may not be an accessible option. RBC offers a number exchange traded funds that exclude fossil fuels. Note that the "fossil fuel free" options available in-branch only appear to exclude companies with fossil fuel reserves. This is solely a directory and not financial advice.
In Branch
RBC has five "Vision Fossil Fuel Free" mutual funds. In contradiction with the fund exclusion criteria, all of these funds have holdings in fossil-powered utilities that also operate in pipeline and export projects (such as Fortis). Due to this finding, we no longer list the funds.
Online
These iShares ETFs, offered by BlackRock + RBC, are only available through direct investing platforms, such as RBC Direct Investing, and fee-based investment advisors. RBC InvestEase does not have a fossil-free offering. The TSX ticker symbol for each exchange traded fund is listed in brackets.
